Drowning at Foster-Arend Pond

On Monday, June 25 2007, thirty-five-year-old Emmanuel McFarland of Hudson, Wisconsin was swimming outside of the designated swim area at Foster-Arend pond and drown. This is the sixth drowning at Foster-Arend in the past 16 years, and raising concerns about safety at Foster-Arend pond.

There are posted signs warning not to swim outside of the designated area, and there is a roped off section which swimmers are to stay inside. People not obeying these directions are literally risking their lives.

Additional patrols monitoring the area have resulted in several fines, just weeks after this incident has happened. Fines can be as high as $1,000.00 for this offense.
